About Team For Kids
Team for Kids was established in 2002 as the primary charity fund-raising vehicle for New York Road Runner’s youth services division. Funds raised through Team for Kids provide free or low-cost school and community-based health and fitness programs to children who would otherwise have no access to regular physical activity. Currently, our programs serve nearly 100,000 children each year in more than 400 schools across New York City, the nation, and South Africa. With obesity still on the rise, NYRR’s youth services equip children with the tools they need to become physically fit for life, while also incorporating goal-setting, character-building, and nutrition education.
Each year, nearly 1,500 Team for Kids runners toe the line in bright green jerseys at a variety of New York City events including the ING New York City Marathon, the New York City Half, the Empire State Building Run Up and the New York City Triathlon. Supported by a team of elite coaches and friendly Team for Kids staff members, these athletes enjoy great race day perks in addition to personalized training plans designed to create an optimal endurance event experience. While out on the course, members enjoy the camaraderie that can only come with having trained together for several months and get an extra boost when they pass cheering stations full of kids benefiting from the youth services our members work so hard to fundraise for.
Team for Kids will add meaning to your miles, but don’t just take it from us…
“Thank you for an amazing 2009 marathon season. I cannot say enough positive things about NYRR and the TFK programs… I am in awe of my achievement and know that it would not have been possible without TFK. Thank you again and see you next year for #4!” - Kathy
“Back at work today, after an exhilarating weekend! Running the ING New York City Marathon is such an experience that the words I’ll attempt to write here will do it no justice.... To TFK: What an organization! None of this would be possible without you, and certainly wouldn’t have as much meaning!! For your efforts in coordinating this, for your support with training, and even for just getting us to the start line, I am truly grateful!” - Amanda
“I'm glad I joined the class of 2009 and truly had an amazing first marathon experience. From the days before the race [to the] Saturday morning breakfast at Tavern on the Green, Charity Village, [and] straight through to the Finish line. It was the most exciting and exhausting experience I've had as a runner.” - Julio
