Selection Priorities

The Mighty Milers Live, Learn and Play Grant Program seeks to assist schools that share our vision of making running a part of every child’s school day. While schools that can demonstrate need and those which have a large percentage of their students running are factors in determining award recipients, there are other selection priorities that we will take into consideration.

Listed below are examples of our selection priorities and are meant to provide guidance in helping you answer the grant application questions. Please do not address every item in the selection priorities in your answers and note that certain priorities may or may not be applicable to your school. In addition, there may be different priorities that you want to include which are relevant to your location and could be useful in assessing the quality and effectiveness of the Mighty Milers program at your school.

  • Utilization of the Mighty Milers resources (e.g. lesson plans, activities, nutrition cards, mileage banners/posters, running games, Fitness Fundraiser, etc…)

  • Number of grades participating

  • Variety of teachers supporting the program as session leaders

  • Ways the administration has helped in finding or making time or space for Mighty Milers sessions

  • Support and inspiration in making Mighty Milers a school/community-wide initiative

  • Ways teachers bring Mighty Milers into classroom subjects

  • Healthy goals or complementary initiatives that Mighty Milers has brought about

  • Health or fitness-related accomplishments spurred by Mighty Milers

  • Student enthusiasm

  • School innovation or unique means of supporting Mighty Milers and/or making the program a school/community-wide initiative

  • New Mighty Milers sites that can demonstrate a sound plan for implementing Mighty Milers
