XC Training Camp
High School Cross Country Training Camp
Take your running to the next level with NYRR's new summer program. You'll learn from expert coaches on how to improve your form, racing strategy and speed. You'll meet other high school runners from around the city and benefit from having college athlete mentors. You'll push hard through challenging workouts and you'll learn to be a better runner through clinics on topics such as positive psychology, proper nutrition, and more.
You must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and be enrolled at a NYC public high school for the fall of 2012.
You must also plan to run cross country with that school.
You must commit to attending all scheduled sessions and show up on time
We will not give preference based on ability, but you must be able to run a 5k without walking to qualify.
Sessions will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Monday-Thursday from July 23 to August 16.
Tentative special events:
Sunday, August 5th soundRUNNER Sea Legs Shuffle 10 mile or 5k in Connecticut
Saturday August 25th (date tentative) Percy Sutton Harlem 5k
Members will meet at Columbus Circle, the southwest corner of Central Park, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursday locations will vary and may be in any one of the 5 boroughs.
This camp is free and includes entry into two race events. NYRR will also provide metro cards for transportation as needed.
How to Apply
Complete an online application by the May 15, 2012 deadline. Selections will be announced on June 8, 2012
While not required, we encourage you to have your coach, a teammate, or parent send a brief statement (500 words or less) as to why you are a good summer running camp candidate. The letter may be e-mailed to Jordan Benkov at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name in the subject line. Recommendation letters may also be sent via post to the address below. Please make sure the person writing the recommendation includes your full name in the letter.
