What is Academic Connection?

Academic Connection is a series of classroom exercises that helps teachers use students' enthusiasm for running to teach academic subjects. Designed for grades K-6, Academic Connection activities can be added to lesson plans for math, science, art, literacy, and physical education.

Why We Created Academic Connection

We see firsthand how students in our youth running programs fall in love with the sport. They talk about running animatedly and incessantly with friends, family, and teachers. With Academic Connection, educators can channel their students' enthusiasm into learning classroom subjects and developing critical thinking skills. The sport of running lends itself easily to a variety of traditional subjects: math skills to calculate distance, pace or a fundraising goal; an understanding of biology and nutrition to keep bodies strong and healthy; and geography so no one gets lost on a run!
